Maureen Fegley Whalen

Maureen Fegley Whalen, 74, of Glen Summit, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on June 16, 2021.

Born June 8, 1947 in Hazleton she was a daughter of late Dr. Winston and Martha Buff Fegley.

A graduate of Hazleton High School, Maureen earned her BA in psychology from Albright College and her MSW from the School of Social Work at Marywood University.

Maureen's career began at Retreat State Hospital in 1969. From Retreat, she was appointed Director of the Partial Hospitalization Program at Hazleton Mental Health Center. Later she went to Children's Service Center as Vice President and Director of Clinical Services, retiring in 2013.

Maureen was an avid tennis player and later became a passionate golfer as a member of the Ladies Golf Association at Wyoming Valley Country Club. She loved the serenity of sitting on her porch overlooking her flower garden with her fur baby, Lucy. She cherished the years she spent in Glen Summit and all the wonderful friends she made there.

A sister, Marsha Fegley, preceded her in death.

Her loving husband of forty-seven years, Ray; daughter, Laura, her husband Roger Slane and their children, Andrew, Rachel and Emily of New Jersey; daughter, Katie, her husband Brian Jutting and their children, Infinity, Brian and Elizabeth of Arizona; sisters-in-law whom she loved dearly, Maureen, Jeanne, Ruth and Molly Whalen; nieces, nephews, other family and friends will miss her much.

A small memorial service for family and close friends is planned for 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the Glen Summit Chapel followed by lunch at Wyoming Valley Country Club.

Donations to the Prescription Assistance Fund at Medical Oncology Associates in Kingston or Blue Chip Animal Refuge in Dallas will honor Maureen's memory.
