Margaret Mary Fischer

April 7, 1931 — October 6, 2011

Margaret Mary Fischer, 80, of Provincial Tower in Wilkes-Barre died peacefully in the presence of extended family and friends on Thursday at Mercy Center in Dallas.

Born April 7th 1931 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Gabriel and Louise Weis Fischer.

A graduate of Saint Nicholas High School, Margaret Mary earned her B.A. from the College of New Rochelle and Master of Library Science from Marywood University.

A familiar face at the D. Leonard Corgan Library, Margaret Mary was a librarian at King's College for thirty-six years before retiring. She resided with her sister in the family homestead in South Wilkes-Barre until they moved to Provincial Tower in September of 2005.

Miss Fischer was a member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas and was active in many church and community organizations. She was for many years a volunteer for the Osterhout Library.

Margaret Mary enjoyed multiple tours of the world traveling with her sister, Louise, who preceded her in death on January 2, 2009. She was a kind, humble and sincere person who touched the lives of many young college students throughout her career at King’s College. She was also touched and surprised as students would meet her later in life and express their gratitude for her assistance to them in the library. They could never forget her smile and bright blue eyes.

She will be missed by family and her large extended family of close friends.

Gratitude is expressed to Dr. Susan Sordoni for her extraordinary medical and personal care, Hospice Community Care and the Visiting Angels and Mercy Center for their love and care which Margaret Mary was grateful for every day. Everyone that met her through these services over the past few years immediately loved her, and she loved them.

Celebration of Margaret Mary’s Life will be held Monday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Nicholas Cemetery in Shavertown.
