Joseph Stefansky

April 24, 1935 — March 25, 2013

Joseph Stefansky, 77, a longtime resident of Hayes Lane in Wilkes-Barre died Monday at Commonwealth Hospice.

Born April 24, 1935 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Stanley and Margaret Williams Stefansky.

He was a proud veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956.

Joe retired from Martz Trailways following a thirty-three year career driving extended excursions and a regular New York City route.

Joe was fond of fishing and particularly enjoyed his annual trips to Canada for fishing with friends.

His wife, Nancy Gallagher Stefansky died December 9, 2001 and son, Joseph died December 6, 2011. An infant daughter, Mary, sisters, Margaret Lee and Joan Swithers, and a brother, Robert Stefanski also preceded him in death.

He will be greatly missed by his children, Lesley and her husband Fred Gunn, and Robert Stefansky of Wilkes-Barre; grandsons, Joseph and Adam Stefansky of Wilkes-Barre; sister, Cassie Hutch of Tunkhannock; other family and friends.

Celebration of Joe’s Life will be led by Deacon Peter Smith on Tuesday at 7 PM at McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Private interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM.
