John Craig Dowling

John Craig ‘Jack’ Dowling, 68, of South Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre died Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

Born October 9, 1942 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Patrick G. and Elizabeth Jasper Dowling.

Jack graduated from Kingston High School in 1960 and Penn State University in 1964 with a degree in business.

He served in the US Navy from 1964 to 1968 as an officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany during the Vietnam War.

Upon his return from active duty, Jack lived in California for the next forty years, where he was a sales executive for Xerox Corporation.

His passions included San Francisco 49ers football in Kezar Stadium, the San Francisco Giants, his Irish heritage, and Frank Sinatra. While living in San Diego, he was active in the Downtown San Diego Residents Association and served as a docent on the USS Midway. Upon his return to Wilkes-Barre in 2009, Jack became an active member of the Downtown Wilkes-Barre Residents Association.
Surviving are a brother: Wayne Dowling and his wife Sheryl Saxe-Dowling of Harrisburg; nieces and nephew, Lisa McKennedy and Claire Dowling of Springfield, Illinois, and Patrick Dowling of Chatham, Illinois; great-nieces and –nephews, and cousins.

Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington.
