Attorney John Joseph Carlin

Attorney John Joseph Carlin, a guest at Manor Care, Second Ave. Kingston died Wednesday evening. Born in Luzerne he was the son of the late Matthew J. and Mary Elizabeth Collins Carlin.
He was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre and had attended St. Boneventure College; he was a graduate of St. John's College, St. John's University Law School and had attended Adelphia University Graduate School of Sociology.
He was admitted to the New York and Pennsylvania Bars and had specialized in adoption and foster care law. Atty. Carlin was counsel for the Catholic Guardian Society, Catholic Home Bureau, Little Flower Children's Services and the Cardinal McCloskey Home.
A veteran of World War II he was a co-founder of the John Henry Newman Institute, member of the board of directors of Christendom College, a lecturer at Brooklyn Diocesan School of Social Action, chairman of the Long Island Right to Life Committee , a member of the Catholic Lawyers Forum. He was the originator of the Kiwanis NYPD Community's Outstanding Policeman (COP) Award and Kiwanis Freedom Through Truth Foundation, member of the Brooklyn Diocesan Committee on adoptions, incorporator of Long Island Birth Right, a member of the Renaissance Seven, an honorary member of the NYPD Kosciusko Society
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol McGuigan Carlin, daughter Mary Elizabeth, grandson Philip Reginald Jurado also brothers Rev. Thomas Carlin; Joseph Carlin Matthew Carlin and a sister Rita Carlin
Surviving are his daughter Catherine-Mary Carlin and her husband Jaime Jurado, grandchildren Mary Elizabeth, Jose, Matthew, and Adriana also a brother James and his wife Virginia of New City N.Y. and five nieces.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM from McLaughlin's - The Family Funeral Service 142 S. Washington St. Wilkes-Barre with a traditional Latin Requiem Mass ( Tridentine Rite ) to be held at 11 AM in St. Michael the Archangel Church 1703 Jackson St. West Scranton Pa. 18504
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
