Grace Callahan

Grace D. Callahan, a former resident of Murray Street, Forty Fort passed away Friday morning at Saint Therese Residence in Wilkes-Barre.

Born August 22, 1920 in Swoyersville she was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Edith Boyle Callahan.

Grace was a member of the 1937 graduating class at the former Swoyersville High School. In 1941 she received her degree in Home Economics from Marywood University. Grace furthered her education at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia and had been employed there as a dietitian.

Upon an illness to her mother in 1949 Grace returned to Swoyersville to become the primary caregiver to her family and extended family. She had resided on Murray Street, Forty Fort for many years prior to her move to Saint Therese Residence.

Grace had been a faithful member of the former Holy Name Church in Swoyersville, prior to its closing.

Her brothers Thomas, Anthony, and Leonard Callahan, and sisters Agnes Kelley, Margaret Campbell, Marie Buckley, Edith Callahan, and Julie Kennedy preceded her in death.

Surviving are her sister Louise Callahan, Saint Therese Residence, Wilkes-Barre; numerous nieces and nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and cousins.

Grace's family extends thanks to the staff of Saint Therese Residence for the compassion and care they shared with Grace and the hospitality and support shared with her family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 1:30 PM in the chapel at Little Flower Manor, 200 S. Meade Street Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Friends may call Monday from 12:30 till time of service at Little Flower Manor
