Frank Cwalina

Francis (Frank) J. Cwalina, 75 was called to heaven Palm Sunday morning April 5th 2009 after a fourteen month battle with lung cancer. He spent the last weeks of his life at the home of his daughter Pearl, being cared for by his children.

Frank was born April 13th 1933 in Larksville a son of the late Francis and Stella Szerel Cwalina. He graduated from Pringle High School Class of 1952 where he excelled in basketball and helped take his team to the 1952 Eastern Finals.

After high school Frank enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving in Germany as an M.P. While training his guard dog Lobo, Frank discovered he had a gift with animals.

Frank was a retired Union laborer with Local 215 Wilkes-Barre where he was primarily employed by Tabone and Barberra as a laborer foreman and the Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant during its early construction phase.

He was a member of the Parish of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Wilkes Barre.

Brothers, Edward, Henry(Walter) and Ben Cwalina and a sister, Florence Gurick preceded him in death.

Frank is survived in addition to his spouse by: son Frank Jr., Plymouth; daughters Darlene and husband Mark Bodek Mountain Top; Kimberly at home; Pearl and husband Karl Lorenz, Mountain Top. He is also survived by three grand children: Frank III, Lee Park, Hanover Twp; Ken Cwalina, Norristown and Greg McMichael, West Wyoming
Surviving siblings include Bernadine, Islin, New Jersey; Peter, Swoyersville, and Joseph, East Windsor, New Jersey along with many nieces and nephews.

Our dad was a patient and soft spoken man. He lived his life for his children. Frank was kind to all who knew him and was well loved. His parting has left a void that will never be filled or replaced.

Military services will be held Wednesday at 9:00 am from McLaughlin Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street, Wilkes Barre with a Funeral Mass at 9:30 am in Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be at St.Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Friends may call Tuesday evening 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
