Bonnie Donahue

Bonnie Philistine Donahue, 89, of South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre died Thursday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley.

Born September 25, 1920 in Hazleton she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Tamone Philistine.

In 1962, Bonnie and her husband, John J. Donahue opened Donahue's Hourglass on South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre. They operated the tavern together until John's death on September 9, 1984, and Bonnie ensured continuous operation through today.

Bonnie was a member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas, Catholic Daughters of America and American Legion Post 395 Auxiliary.

As a youth, Bonnie was a Jitterbug champion and continued to enjoy dancing throughout her life. She loved traveling with her sisters and nieces and nephews whenever she could.

Sisters, Mary Everett, Rita Foley and Pearl Broody and brothers, James and Ralph Philistine preceded her in death.

Surviving are sisters and brothers, Ida Nigro of Clifton, New Jersey, William Philistine of Wickliffe, Ohio, Jean Treat of Jackson Township, New Jersey and Joseph Philistine of Wilkes-Barre and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Bonnie’s Life will be held Monday at 09:00 AM from McLaughlin's Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 09:30 AM in Church of Saint Nicholas. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum in Hanover Township.

Friends may call Sunday 4 to 7 PM
