Thomas J. Nardone

Thomas J. Nardone, 88, of Wilkes-Barre died Saturday at his home.

Born May 7, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Carmen and Filomena Ucci Nardone.

A 1945 graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Tom enlisted with and served our country honorably as a veteran of the Army Air Force.

Tom joined his parents in the operation of C. Nardone and Sons, trading as Mama Nardone's, where he became an owner of the pizza and bread baking business before retiring.

An active member of the community, Tom joined UNICO in 1953 and served as president for the 1981-82 term, national secretary for two years, and a member of the board of directors for more than twenty years. He was a past commander, adjutant and board member of the Italian-American War Veterans, and a former president, secretary and state trustee of the Sons of Italy. He was an honorary life member of the Bishop William J. Hafey Assembly, Fourth Degree and Knights of Columbus Council 302. He was previously active as a member of the Crime Clinic of the Greater Wyoming Valley, a board member of the Foster Grandparents Program, and as a scout leader for Boy Scouts of America.

Tom was a long time member of the Church of Holy Rosary where he served as an usher, lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the church choir and an active member of the Holy Name Society.

He and his wife, Rachel Ciavarella Nardone, who died January 13th, would have been married sixty-three years on April 18, 2016. Brothers, Lucas and Vincent Nardone and sisters, Josephine Rotondaro and Eugenia Costantino also preceded him in death.

Tom will be greatly missed by his children; Carmen V. Nardone of Wilkes-Barre, Marie and her husband Donald Warren of Kingston, Gloria and her husband Larry Boots of Newark, Delaware, Filomena and her husband David Nelson of West Chester, Ohio and Bernadette and her husband Jeff Frail of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Joey and Julie Arowcavage, Lauren and Michelle Boots, Stephanie, John and Gregory Nelson, Nicole Frail and her fiancé Matt Magda and Kerri and Jeffrey Frail; sisters, Dolores D'Elia of Pittston and Theresa Pizzella of Exeter; nieces, nephews, other family and friends including David Seliga.

Tom’s entire family is grateful for the kind and loving care shared with him by his caregivers, Sherry, Robin and Jen, and the nurses and staff of Celtic Hospice.

Celebration of Tom’s Life will begin Friday with visitation from 4 to 7:30 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there Saturday with gathering at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Church of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery.
