Regina McGrath Ferry

Regina (Jean) Ferry passed from this life at the Berwick Retirement Village on January 1, 2018 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on March 29, 1928 to Joseph Patrick McGrath and Regina Dooley.

Jean was a graduate of G.A.R. High school. The highlight of her life was her marriage to Gerald Francis Ferry on May 30, 1947.

Jean was a wonderful wife, homemaker and devoted mother to three children, grandmother to eleven and great-grandmother to five children. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially; son, Dr. John Ferry and his wife Jennifer of Harrisburg; daughter, Catherine Curtin and her husband Dennis of Berwick, and daughter in law, Charlotte Ferry of Wilkes-Barre. Jean enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; Robert, Michael and Matthew Ferry, Sarah Ferry Nicholas, Edward, Daniel and Casey Curtin, Shannon Curtin Mazur, Alissa, Christopher & Brian Ferry. Her great-grandchildren are John and Eleanor Boucher-Ferry, Ione Theopulos, Quinn Mazur and Marian Pearl Nicholas.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years on July 25, 2006 and her son, Dr. Gerald Ferry, Jr. on December 21, 2003.

Jean loved simple pleasures such as spending an evening with friends and family playing board or card games, offering tea and tasty cakes to loved ones, or a week spent with family at the beach. She and her husband were active members of St. Mary’s Parish in Wilkes-Barre and the Circle Eight Square Dancing Club. In retirement, they loved to travel across the country with friends and family, especially Ann and Charlie Ragsdale.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM on Monday, January 15, 2018, in the Church of Saint Leo the Great, 33 Manhattan Street in Ashley.

Jean’s entire family gives thanks to all of the caregivers at the Berwick Retirement Village as well as the caregivers of hospice who provided Jean comfort and support to the family.

Donations in Jean’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
