Nancy Durkin
June 17, 1924 — May 4, 2018
Nancy Durkin, age 93, formerly of Sugar Notch, entered into eternal rest on May 4, 2018.
Born June 17, 1924 in Wilkes Barre she was a daughter of the late Anthony J. and Anna Farley Durkin.
A 1941 graduate of Sugar Notch High School, Nancy earned her degree in Business Education from Misericordia University in 1945.
Nancy's career in education started at Sugar Notch High School and continued at Ashley and Hanover Area high schools until her retirement from teaching in 1983. After her teaching career, Nancy was a receptionist for Dr. Joseph Piszcek.
She was a long time, active member of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Sugar Notch. Through the years, she held many offices with the Altar and Rosary Society. Following the closing of Saint Charles Parish, Nancy became an active member of Holy Family Parish and was a member of the Christian Women’s Society.
Nancy was also a member of the Pennsylvania Retirement Teachers’ Association, Donegal Society and the Misericordia University Alumni Association.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and especially numerous trips to South Bend to see her beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, John (Shelia) Durkin, Gerard (Shelby) Durkin, Joe (Ann) Durkin; sister, Jeanne Durkin (Jack) Gulick; and nephew, Jack Durkin.
Nancy will be greatly missed by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Celebration of Nancy's Life will begin Thursday, May 10 with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes Barre and continue on Friday, May 11 with a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Holy Family Church in Sugar Notch. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
