Mary T. Delaney

Mary Teresa McCarthy Delaney, 89, of Kingston died Sunday at her residence.

Born January 22, 1927 in Plymouth she was a daughter of the late Michael J. and Marjorie Dougherty McCarthy.

A 1945 graduate of Saint Mary's High School, Mary worked for Martz Trailways for several years.

Mary dedicated most of her life to raising her family of nine children and was involved in their activities through the years. She cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Before retiring Mary was a volunteer coordinator for Hospice Saint John in the Wyoming Valley.

A devout Catholic, Mary instilled deep faith in her family. She was a member of the Parish of Saint Ignatius Loyola. She enjoyed her regular Bingo games at Dan Flood Tower and her many trips to Atlantic City with her sisters and other family members.

Her husband, Robert Michael Delaney, died August 5, 1997. A son, Robert M., Jr., infant son, Robert, sister, Catherine McCarthy and brothers, James, William and Michael McCarthy also preceded her in death.

Mary will be greatly missed by her children, Mary (Charles) Smith of Wilkes-Barre, Noreen (Johnnie) Lyles of Clearwater, Florida, Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, Pastor of the Parishes of Holy Cross in Olyphant and Blessed Sacrament in Throop, Alice (Alvie) Sutton of Chase, Patrick (Melynda) Delaney of Swoyersville, Therese Harrison of Forty Fort, John Delaney of Luzerne and William Delaney of Summit, New Jersey; fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Dixon of Eldersburg, Maryland and Jeanne O’Connell of Summit, New Jersey; sister-in-law and treasured friend, Alice Winters of Dallas; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Celebration of Mary’s Life will begin Wednesday with visitation from 4 to 8 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there Thursday with gathering at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola. Interment will be in Saint Vincent's Cemetery in Plymouth.

Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre.
