Donald Robert Mawhinney

Donald Robert Mawhinney, 85, passed away at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, PA on May 18, 2017.
Born February 6, 1932 to the late Genevieve (Doherty) and James K. Mawhinney, Don was raised in Syracuse, New York, attending Most Holy Rosary School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Japan during the Korean War.
Don moved to the Washington D.C. area more than fifty years ago and began a lifetime career in the retail business most recently working for J. Press.
Don was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia where he served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.
He loved entertaining friends and family and those who knew him were fortunate to experience his smile and sense of humor as well as his compassion and generosity.
Don will be greatly missed by his sister, Sister Jamesella Mawhinney, IHM of Scranton and his cousins Ellen and Patricia Mawhinney.
Services were held at the Little Flower Manor. Interment was in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt, New York.
Don's family members express their appreciation to Saint Therese Residence as well as Little Flower Manor for the thoughtful and professional care they provided.
